Uruguay Rising: House Rules the Top as Hard Dance and Electronica Fill the Ranks

Uruguay has seven DJs on the DJ Radar board. Between them they cover house, tech house, hard dance, melodic house & techno and electronica, which is four genre families in a field of seven.

A 10-point fight for No. 1

Luciano Supervielle leads the country with a credit score of 713 from 5,574 votes. Marcelo Demarco is right behind on 703 from 5,041 votes. That leaves 10 points and 533 votes between them. Third place sits another 139 points back, so this is the only real contest at the top.

Both leaders come from the house family, which shows where the country's weight sits right now. Supervielle is listed under House and Demarco under Tech House.

Supervielle's position rests on listening numbers that agree with each other: 34,815 Spotify monthly listeners, 25,672 Spotify followers, 42,685 Last.fm listeners and 39,000 Instagram followers. Because the figures line up, this is the best-supported profile on the Uruguayan board.

Demarco's case is spread wider. Spotify shows 4,189 monthly listeners and 2,211 followers, and the profile also logs 4,490 YouTube subscribers, 2,487 SoundCloud followers, 13,352 on Instagram, 367 on Mixcloud and 147 on Resident Advisor. The standout column is festivals. Demarco's festival count of 29 is the highest recorded among Uruguay's seven. The profile draws on many channels instead of leaning on one.

Hard dance at No. 3

Lila Tirando a Violeta is the board's only hard dance entry and its most distinctive one. A credit score of 564 from 1,791 votes secures third place. The supporting data is strong: 4,358 SoundCloud followers, 13,832 Last.fm listeners, 10,649 on Instagram, 690 on Resident Advisor and a festival count of 15.

Two of those figures lead the country. The SoundCloud and Resident Advisor followings are the largest recorded on the Uruguayan board, ahead of both names ranked above. The top two are house-family DJs, so a hard dance name leading on SoundCloud and RA is the sharpest contrast in the data.

Melodic ground and a tight midfield

Marcelo Castelli holds No. 4 with 450 points and 1,476 votes and is the board's melodic house & techno entry. The clearest numbers here are 5,817 Last.fm listeners, 3,556 SoundCloud followers and 214 on Resident Advisor.

Just behind is Caminauta on 433 points from 1,209 votes. The 17-point gap between fourth and fifth is the second-closest margin in the country, after the race for No. 1.

Electronica fills the ranks

Caminauta starts a run of three electronica names that closes out the board. Diego Maciel is No. 6 with 355 points and 1,033 votes, and Pedro Restuccia is No. 7 with 299 points and 660 votes.

That makes Electronica the most common main genre on Uruguay's board, at three of seven. Caminauta and Maciel have both passed 1,000 votes, so voters are backing names beyond the top of the table.

The local flavour

Taken as a whole, the Uruguayan board shows range, not a single sound. House and tech house hold the top, hard dance is third, melodic house & techno is fourth and electronica makes up the base. No genre family holds more than three of the seven spots.

Three storylines stand out: a 10-point fight at the top, a 17-point squeeze in the midfield, and a hard dance name that already leads the country on SoundCloud and RA. For a board of seven, that is plenty to watch.
