Turkey's Melodic Wave: How 57 DJs Are Redrawing the Country's Electronic Map

Turkey's Melodic Wave: How 57 DJs Are Redrawing the Country's Electronic Map

There's a version of this story where Turkey is a footnote in the global dance-music conversation. The numbers say otherwise. Fifty-seven Turkish DJs currently hold positions on the DJ Radar board, and the top of the national chart reads less like a local scene report and more like a statement of intent.

House at the summit

At number one sits Erol Alkan, whose credit score of 786 — built on 6,632 votes — puts clear daylight between him and the chasing pack. The profile behind the score is telling: 161 festival appearances, 108,848 Spotify monthly listeners and an Instagram following of 81,061. That festival count alone dwarfs everyone else on the Turkish board and speaks to a career measured in stages, not just streams.

Second place belongs to islandman, and here the shape of the data flips. Just 30 festival credits, but 344,651 Spotify monthly listeners and 103,000 YouTube subscribers — the largest YouTube audience on the Turkish chart by a wide margin. Where Alkan's number one is earned on the road, islandman's 723-point score is powered by an audience that presses play. Both fly the house flag, and together they give Turkey a two-headed summit: one built on live gravity, the other on streaming reach.

The melodic engine room

What makes this chart distinctive is what happens from rank three downward. Five consecutive entries — Sezer Uysal (717), Deniz Koyu (715), Ali Bakgor (708), widerberg (699) and Deniz Kabu (683) — all file under melodic house & techno. That's not a coincidence; it's an identity. The genre has become Turkey's engine room, and the scores are packed remarkably tight: just 34 points separate third from seventh.

Within that cluster, the profiles diverge in interesting ways. Sezer Uysal pairs his 717 score with 48 festival appearances — the second-highest live count on the board. Deniz Koyu brings the streaming muscle: 203,749 monthly listeners on Spotify, 94,985 Spotify followers and 98,811 on Instagram. And Ali Bakgor, sitting fifth, quietly owns the single biggest streaming audience in the country — 393,741 Spotify monthly listeners, more than anyone above him, including the two house artists at the top. If credit scores lag audiences, Bakgor is the name to watch.

widerberg adds 117,894 monthly listeners and 17,900 YouTube subscribers to the melodic column, while Deniz Kabu rounds out the bloc at 683 with 17 festival credits.

A deep house outlier

Eighth-ranked Sinan Kaya breaks the pattern twice over. He's the chart's lone deep house entry, and his footprint lives on different platforms: 3,843 TikTok followers and 3,747 on SoundCloud, against modest Spotify numbers. His 661 score, drawn from 4,690 votes, suggests a following built in corners of the internet the melodic contingent has largely left alone.

The takeaway

Turkey's chart tells a clear story: house legends at the peak, a dense, hungry melodic house & techno middle class stacked within a few dozen points of each other, and streaming audiences that in several cases outrun the rankings themselves. With 57 artists on the board and vote counts in the thousands for every top-eight name, this is no longer a scene waiting to be discovered. It's one waiting to be reckoned with.
