Trance Holds the Crown: The Top 3 DJs Worldwide by Credit Score

By Renata Alves·June 30, 2026

When you rank the entire DJ world by credit score, you expect chaos — genres colliding, continents jostling, streaming giants steamrolling everyone else. Instead, the top of the chart is remarkably orderly, and remarkably Dutch.

A Netherlands one-two

Armin van Buuren sits at the summit with a credit score of 937, the only artist in this trio to clear the 930 mark. He gets there on 11,940 votes — the highest tally of the three — and a profile that's less about raw streaming volume than sustained, broad-based support. His 14,567,718 Spotify monthly listeners are the smallest figure among these three, yet he tops the ranking anyway. That's the whole point of a credit score: it rewards depth and consistency over any single vanity metric. With 57 festival appearances logged and a near-five-million Instagram following (4,938,795), Armin is the definition of a trance institution that never coasts.

Behind him, his countryman Tiësto lands at #2 with a score of 921. The gap to the top looks small, and in some respects Tiësto's footprint is larger: 34,605,905 Spotify monthly listeners dwarf everyone here, as do his 8,363,088 Spotify followers and 79 festival appearances — the busiest stage schedule of the three. So why second? The vote count tells part of it. Tiësto's 11,880 votes trail Armin's, and in a system where community backing carries weight, those 60 votes matter. Two Dutch trance veterans, one and two, is a statement about how durable that scene's fanbase remains.

The tie that defines the podium

Here's where it gets interesting. Skrillex also scores 921 — identical to Tiësto — and takes #3 only on the tiebreak. His 11,460 votes sit just below Tiësto's 11,880, and that's the margin separating the two on the card.

What makes Skrillex's presence here notable is that he's the lone outsider. He's the only American in the top three, the only non-Dutch artist, and the only one not flying the trance banner — his dubstep, filed under the bass family, stands apart from the Armin-Tiësto axis. Yet his social reach is, in places, the most formidable on this list: 12,083,723 Instagram followers and a staggering 6,675,563 SoundCloud followers, the latter a reminder of how deeply embedded he is in the producer and remix communities where SoundCloud still rules. With 2,460,000 YouTube subscribers and 89,527 followers on Resident Advisor, he bridges the underground and the mainstream in a way neither Dutchman attempts.

What the ranking is really saying

Three men, two countries, two genre families — and a podium decided by votes as much as by streams. The headline is trance's enduring grip: two of the top three are Dutch trance figures with credit scores 16 points apart, and the genre's loyal voting base clearly punches above its streaming weight. Tiësto's enormous 34.6-million-listener reach couldn't lift him past a more vote-rich Armin, and it took a tiebreak to settle his battle with Skrillex.

The bass world's representative proves the chart isn't a closed shop. Skrillex's cross-platform dominance — those SoundCloud and Instagram numbers especially — keeps him level with a touring titan and within striking distance of the crown. Across these three, the festival counts (57, 79, 50) and follower spreads sketch three different routes to the same rarefied air.

The takeaway: at the very top, it isn't one metric that wins. It's the total package — votes, reach, and stage presence — and right now, the Dutch trance tradition is holding the line against all comers.
