Trance at the Top: Inside the Dominican Republic's Eight-Strong DJ Radar Board

The Dominican Republic (DO on the DJ Radar board) currently fields eight ranked DJs, and the shape of the table says a lot about where the country's electronic scene is heading: one clear frontrunner, a densely packed chasing group, and a genre map that refuses to settle on a single sound.

A trance act out in front

At number one sits DJ Eric, the board's lone trance representative, with a credit score of 686 built on 5,219 votes — by far the largest vote haul in the country. His streaming profile backs up the ranking: 62,483 monthly listeners and 46,797 followers on Spotify, plus 4,837 listeners on Last.fm. In a national field otherwise dominated by electronica, a trance artist holding the top spot with this kind of margin — 179 points clear of second place — is the board's defining fact.

Emi holds second

Emi takes the runner-up position with a 507 credit score from 1,561 votes. The electronica artist's footprint spans 13,551 Instagram followers and 83,823 listeners on Last.fm, giving the number-two slot a genuinely broad listening base to point to.

A midfield decided by inches

Below the top two, the race compresses dramatically. Sandy MC (479, on 1,413 votes) holds third, with Afrodita fourth at 453 — Afrodita's 13,419 Last.fm listeners and 1,009 Instagram followers rounding out the profile. Just 26 points separate third from fourth, and only 23 more separate fourth from fifth.

That fifth spot belongs to Bryan Brack, the board's only techno artist, at 430. Here's the wrinkle worth watching: Brack's 1,510 votes actually exceed the vote counts of both Sandy MC and Afrodita above him, and he's the only DJ in the DO top eight with a festival appearance on record (one, per the data), alongside 5,869 Instagram followers and 49 followers on Resident Advisor. If credit scores follow voter enthusiasm, the techno lane has room to climb.

The tightest gap on the entire board comes next. CANOTO, the country's sole dubstep entry, sits sixth at 402 with 1,227 votes and 3,318 Last.fm listeners — while electronica act eMeTeDe trails at 398 on 1,206 votes. Four points. That's the whole difference between sixth and seventh, and it could flip on a handful of ballots.

Rounding out the table is José Ernesto Chapuseaux at eighth, with a 353 score from 560 votes — the smallest vote base on the board, which leaves the most headroom for movement in either direction.

What the table tells us

Five of the eight ranked DJs file under electronica, but the podium-adjacent stories belong to the outliers: trance at number one, techno with the midfield's strongest voter turnout, and dubstep clinging to sixth by four points. The DO board reads less like a settled hierarchy and more like a scene mid-conversation about its own identity.

DJ Eric's lead looks secure for now. Everything from third place down does not — and that volatility, more than any single ranking, is the healthiest sign a rising national scene can show.
