Top 3 DJs Worldwide: Guetta Edges Van Buuren and Garrix in a 60-Vote Photo Finish

If you want proof that the top of the global DJ pyramid is contested by inches, not miles, look at the arithmetic. David Guetta finishes at No. 1 with 11,970 fan votes. Armin van Buuren lands at No. 2 with 11,940. Martin Garrix rounds out the podium at No. 3 with 11,910. Thirty votes separate each step; sixty votes cover the entire podium. In a poll where each of these artists cleared eleven thousand ballots, that spread is a rounding error — and a statement about how evenly matched the top tier has become.

The winner: David Guetta

The French Dance / Pop titan tops the vote count, and the streaming picture backs up the breadth of his reach: 87,684,123 Spotify monthly listeners and 28,205,283 Spotify followers, numbers that reflect a career built on crossing over without ever leaving the club behind. Add 12,253,645 Instagram followers and 6,900,000 on TikTok, and you have an artist whose audience spans casual pop listeners and dancefloor lifers alike. His credit score of 928 sits just behind van Buuren's — more on that in a moment — but when the fans voted, Guetta got over the line.

The runner-up: Armin van Buuren

Here is the wrinkle worth chewing on. The Dutch trance standard-bearer actually posts the highest credit score of the three at 938, ten points clear of Guetta's 928 and twenty-nine ahead of Garrix's 909. But this ranking is decided by fan votes, and there van Buuren's 11,940 fell 30 short. His profile tells the story of a genre specialist with serious depth: 14,613,807 Spotify monthly listeners, 4,938,795 on Instagram, and — tellingly — 99,646 Mixcloud followers, the largest Mixcloud base on this podium and a nod to the mix-show culture trance still lives on. Coming this close on the strength of a single genre family, while his rivals draw from the commercial mainstream, is its own kind of victory for trance.

The bronze: Martin Garrix

The second Dutchman in the top three, Garrix flies the Big Room flag with 11,910 votes. On raw social reach he arguably has the strongest single platform of anyone here outside Guetta's Spotify empire: 15,202,056 Instagram followers, more than either artist above him. Layer on 24,718,671 Spotify monthly listeners, 15,285,060 Spotify followers, and 2,600,000 on TikTok, and the picture is of an artist whose ceiling is nowhere near reached — he simply ran into two of the most decorated names in electronic music history and lost by sixty votes.

What the podium says about the scene

Three threads stand out. First, the Netherlands remains the sport's superpower, claiming two of three podium spots with van Buuren and Garrix. Second, the commercial wing of dance music — Guetta's Dance / Pop and Garrix's Big Room — bookends the podium, but trance holds the middle, and holds it with the best credit score in the field. Third, and most importantly: the fans are split almost exactly three ways. When 35,820 combined votes produce a 60-vote total spread, no one at the top can afford a quiet year.

Guetta wears the crown. Van Buuren has the score. Garrix has the momentum of the biggest Instagram following on the podium. Thirty votes is nothing — and all three of them know it.
