Top 3 Afro House DJs: Black Coffee Runs Away With the Fan Vote

By Imani BrooksΒ·October 22, 2026

Some fan votes are contests. At the top, this one isn't. Black Coffee leads DJ Radar's afro house ranking with 32,523 fan votes. That's more than four times the 7,930 Dj Maphorisa collected in second, and more than double the two names below combined.

The real contest is lower down. Only 778 votes separate Dj Maphorisa from DJ GIAA in third. In this top 3, that's the margin worth watching.

Why Black Coffee Is Out of Reach

The rest of the profile backs up the vote lead. Black Coffee also has the highest credit score in the countdown, at 966. The platform numbers line up behind it: 5,073,043 Instagram followers, 383,552 on SoundCloud, 201,676 Last.fm listeners and 50,265 followers on Resident Advisor.

The Last.fm and RA figures matter most. Those audiences tend to follow artists on purpose and keep an eye on club and festival listings. That is the kind of committed base that turns out to vote. Add a festival count of 371 in our data, and this is a reach built on the dancefloor as much as on the feed.

Dj Maphorisa: The Streaming Heavyweight

Second place tells a different story. On Spotify, Dj Maphorisa runs ahead of Black Coffee, with 5,177,378 monthly listeners and 4,691,705 followers against 3,315,535 and 1,745,538. Add 1,480,000 YouTube subscribers and 3,832,295 Instagram followers, and this profile has serious mainstream reach.

The gap opens up in the specialist metrics: 41,324 SoundCloud followers, 34,005 Last.fm listeners and 2,819 on RA. A credit score of 843 keeps Maphorisa clearly in second. But the vote count suggests big streaming numbers don't automatically turn into fan-ballot strength the way a deep club following does.

DJ GIAA: Votes Over Volume

Third place is where this ranking gets interesting. DJ GIAA arrives with a credit score of 764 and 7,152 votes, only 778 behind Maphorisa. That's despite a much smaller footprint on the platforms we track: 161,025 Instagram followers and 12,942 on SoundCloud.

That ratio is the story. Put next to Maphorisa's 3,832,295 Instagram followers, DJ GIAA's vote count points to a fanbase that turns out when it counts. The open question is whether that energy carries over into wider reach.

A South African Axis

Step back and the scene has a clear shape. Two of the three names here, Black Coffee and Dj Maphorisa, are from South Africa, and they hold first and second between them. In this ranking, afro house's centre of gravity is South Africa.

DJ GIAA's place in third shows there's room on this ballot for a name with a far smaller platform profile. It also suggests that voting energy and audience size don't always move together.

The Verdict

The credit scores fall in the same order as the votes, 966, 843 and 764, so this isn't a ranking at odds with itself. Black Coffee's lead reflects how deep the following runs, not just how big it is. The streaming heavyweight sits second and the vote-driven contender third, and the 778 votes between them is the closest gap on the board.

At the top, the question is settled. Below it, it isn't.
