Top 10 Trance DJs: A Settled Summit, a Scramble Underneath
By Mara Quinn·October 10, 2026
Ranked strictly by credit score, the top of trance reads like received wisdom — and then, a few rungs down, it turns into a genuine fight.
Armin van Buuren sits at the summit with a credit score of 996, the highest in this field, and he gets there on the broadest base of support: 86,057 votes, more than any other name on the list. Tiësto follows at 989, just seven points back, with 53,203 votes. The two of them form a clear upper tier, and the interesting wrinkle is that the ranking plainly isn't a streaming chart. Tiësto actually out-streams Armin on Spotify monthly listeners — 33,369,483 to 15,141,145 — yet lands second. Credit score rewards a wider blend of signals than raw plays, and that distinction defines the whole countdown.
The first real cliff comes at the move from second to third. Paul van Dyk anchors the podium at 949, a 40-point drop and the largest gap anywhere in the upper half. His profile carries a data point none of the others here do — a festival count of 252 — a reminder that the names near the top tend to be measured in decades of stage time, not a single breakout year.
Then the field bunches. Above & Beyond (932) and Marlon Hoffstadt (931) are separated by a single point, close enough that the order is essentially a coin-flip on the current numbers. Ferry Corsten holds sixth at 911, keeping the top six comfortably clear of what follows.
The tail of the list is where it gets properly congested. Paul Oakenfold (895) and Markus Schulz (882) give way to the closest pairing on the entire countdown: Giuseppe Ottaviani at 872 and ATB at 871, one point apart for ninth and tenth. On a different week, those two swap places and nobody blinks. From Armin's 996 down to ATB's 871, the full span of the ten is 125 points — wide at the top, almost nonexistent at the bottom.
The geography is worth a pause. Germany places four names in the ten — Paul van Dyk, Marlon Hoffstadt, Markus Schulz and ATB — more than any other country. The Netherlands contributes three in Armin, Tiësto and Ferry Corsten, the United Kingdom two in Above & Beyond and Oakenfold, and Italy one in Giuseppe Ottaviani. For a sound often filed under a single national banner, trance's leaderboard is spread across the continent.
What the numbers describe is a scene with a stable ceiling and a volatile floor. The top two are insulated by both score and vote count; the podium is secured by one of trance's longest-standing touring résumés. Everything from fourth place down, though, is decided in the margins — two separate one-point ties, a cluster of sub-20-point gaps — which is another way of saying the hierarchy below the headliners is anything but fixed. Watch the mid-table through the next voting cycle. That's where the list is most likely to redraw itself.
