Top 10 Techno DJs: Fan Votes Crown Charlotte de Witte in a 90-Vote Photo Finish
By Renata Alves·August 9, 2026
If you want a snapshot of where techno stands right now, this fan vote is it: a Belgian at the summit, a British institution refusing to yield, and a chasing pack drawn from France, South Korea, the United States, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. The genre has never looked less like a single city's export and more like a global language.
At the top, the margins are brutal. Charlotte de Witte takes first place with 11,850 votes; Carl Cox sits second on 11,760 — a gap of exactly 90 votes. I Hate Models lands third with 11,670, meaning just 180 votes separate the entire podium. That's not a ranking, that's a photo finish, and it says fans see three very different versions of techno — de Witte's stripped-back intensity, Cox's decades-deep authority, the French artist's raw emotional assault — as effectively interchangeable at the summit.
There's a delicious wrinkle in the numbers, too. Carl Cox actually posts the highest credit score in the entire field at 912, ahead of de Witte's 889. The voters simply broke the other way. De Witte backs up her win with serious reach — 1,840,356 Spotify monthly listeners, 5,557,067 Instagram followers and 202 festival appearances — a profile that reads like a full-spectrum champion rather than a niche favourite.
Fourth-placed Peggy Gou is the streaming heavyweight of this list, with 8,088,576 Spotify monthly listeners and 851,181 Last.fm listeners — figures consistent with her enormous crossover footprint, including 4,658,647 Instagram followers and 133,460 RA followers, the largest RA following in the top ten. Yet the vote put three artists ahead of her, a reminder that this poll measures devotion, not just consumption. Amelie Lens completes the top five on 11,490 votes, keeping two Belgians in the top five and underlining just how dense the field is: only 360 votes separate first from fifth.
The back half of the table is where the momentum lives. Sara Landry, sixth on 11,430 votes, carries a credit score of 899 — higher than de Witte's — alongside 273 festival appearances. Reinier Zonneveld follows on 11,400 votes with a striking 2,959,351 Spotify monthly listeners. Indira Paganotto, eighth with 11,250 votes, pairs a 897 credit score with 291 festival dates and 1,727,610 Instagram followers; on workload and pedigree, she looks like a future podium contender.
The biggest single break in the vote comes between eighth and ninth: Lilly Palmer's 10,830 sits 420 votes behind Paganotto — the widest gap anywhere in the ranking. Palmer still brings 1,010,113 Spotify monthly listeners, 1,769,731 Instagram followers and 211 festival appearances to the table. KI/KI closes things out on 10,800 votes, a mere 30 behind Palmer, and quietly posts some of the most intriguing numbers here: 1,896,120 Spotify monthly listeners, 187,700 TikTok followers and 271 festival appearances — a fanbase that clearly lives as much on the road and on video platforms as on streaming profiles.
A few threads worth pulling. Six of the ten acts are women, with the top spot and three of the top five held by female artists — techno's rankings increasingly reflect what its lineups have been telling us for years. The Netherlands and Belgium each place two artists, but no country dominates. And the compression at the top — 180 votes across three artists, 360 across five — suggests next year's edition is genuinely up for grabs. I Hate Models' 421 festival appearances, the heaviest touring figure in the field, is exactly the kind of ground game that turns third place into first.
