The Psytrance Power Board: Vini Vici Out Front, Israel Setting the Pace

Psytrance is one of electronic music's most self-contained ecosystems — a scene of festival cathedrals, marathon sets and a sound built for the small hours. On DJ Radar, 1,014 DJs carry the psytrance tag, and the top of that board tells you plenty about where the genre's weight currently sits.

Vini Vici out in front

Vini Vici (Israel) lead the family with a credit score of 874 and 10,470 votes — the highest vote tally in this top tier by a wide margin. That 32-point cushion over second place is the clearest gap anywhere near the summit, and it marks Vini Vici as the act the rest of the field is measured against.

A dense chase pack

Behind the leader, the numbers compress fast. Infected Mushroom (Israel) sit second on 842, Astrix (Israel) third on 836, and Liquid Soul (Switzerland) fourth on 823. From second place down to eighth, the entire chase pack is separated by just 37 points — a genuinely tight stretch of board.

It gets tighter still at the bottom of the top eight. Simon Patterson (United Kingdom) sits seventh on 807, with Neelix (Germany) eighth on 805 — a razor-thin two points apart. In between, Protoculture (South Africa) holds fifth on 818 and Bliss (Israel) sixth on 809. Any of these positions looks reorderable on the next vote swing.

Israel's gravitational pull

The standout structural fact is geographic. Four of the top six — Vini Vici, Infected Mushroom, Astrix and Bliss — are listed out of Israel, the long-running heartland of the psytrance sound. The rest of the leaderboard reads like the genre's global reach in miniature: Switzerland, South Africa, the United Kingdom and Germany all place an artist in the top eight. Psytrance is worldwide, but its densest concentration of top-ranked talent remains Israeli.

What defines the sound

Every name here shares the same Psy-Trance main genre, and that consistency is the point. Psytrance is defined less by any single hit than by its architecture: rolling, hypnotic basslines, high tempos and long-form arrangements engineered to sustain a dancefloor rather than punctuate it. It's a producer's genre and a live-set genre at once, which is why a board like this rewards catalog depth and touring presence over a single viral moment.

The platform footprints reflect that. Vini Vici post the strongest streaming reach in the group, with roughly 3.13 million Spotify monthly listeners, while Infected Mushroom carry the deepest historical listenership at over 1.04 million Last.fm listeners and 822,267 Spotify followers. Astrix and Neelix both clear 700,000 Spotify monthly listeners of their own. These are established, catalog-heavy careers, not overnight surges.

The takeaway

The psytrance board right now is a story of one clear leader and a bunched, competitive field. Vini Vici set the ceiling; Infected Mushroom, Astrix and a cluster of veterans keep the pressure on within a handful of points. And with Israel supplying most of the top names, the genre's traditional engine room is still very much running.
