Sri Lanka's Bass-Forward Vanguard: Seven Names Reshaping the Island's DJ Scene

Seven DJs from LK currently sit on the DJ Radar board, and what stands out first isn't a single sound but the range of them. Drum & bass, melodic house & techno, deep house, psy-trance and house all share the same ranking — a snapshot of a scene that hasn't settled into one lane.

Costa out front

At the top sits Costa, the island's drum & bass standard-bearer, with a credit score of 734 and 5,342 votes. That vote count is more than double the next artist's, and the margin at the top is real: Costa leads the board by 214 points. The profile is broad, too, with a Last.fm listener base of 41,100 and a Resident Advisor following of 1,398 — the kind of cross-platform footprint that tends to follow an act with genuine reach rather than a single viral moment.

The chase pack

Behind Costa, Avzzea holds second with 520 points and 1,884 votes, working in melodic house & techno. Avzzea's presence skews toward the socials — 5,202 on TikTok and 3,615 on Instagram — suggesting an artist building an audience as much through the feed as the floor.

The tightest contest on the board comes just below. Taizy On da Track (deep house) sits third on 455 points, with Earphonic (psy-trance) fourth on 453. Two points separate them — as close as any gap here. Earphonic's 9,725 SoundCloud followers are the largest on that platform among these seven, a nod to psy-trance's long-standing home in mix culture.

Depth beyond the podium

The back half of the list shows how quickly the field tightens. Anuradha Jayathilaka takes fifth in house with 412 points and 1,105 votes. Yasith Praharshana Samaranayaka follows in sixth, another melodic house & techno name, on 398 points. Tilantha hansanath rounds out the seven at 326 points and 651 votes, working the same deep house territory as Taizy.

That clustering matters. Ranks three through seven fall inside a 129-point band, which means the order below Costa and Avzzea is anything but fixed. A strong release or a good festival run could reshuffle the middle of this board quickly.

The local flavour

Genre tells the story. Melodic house & techno and deep house each claim two of the seven slots — the connective tissue of the list — while Costa's drum & bass and Earphonic's psy-trance push toward the harder, bass-heavy edges. House, in Anuradha Jayathilaka's hands, holds the classic center.

It's a spread that reads as a scene in motion rather than one built around a single flagship sound. The bass end has its figurehead in Costa, the melodic and deep-house camps have depth, and psy-trance keeps a foothold. Seven names is a modest board by the standards of the biggest markets, but the variety and the tight midfield suggest a scene with room — and momentum — to climb.
