Seoul Rising: Inside South Korea's DJ Radar Top Eight

South Korea has 18 DJs on the DJ Radar board right now, and the top eight alone span techno, drum & bass, melodic house, dubstep, and electronica. That breadth is the story: this is not a scene orbiting a single sound.

The clear number one

At the summit sits Peggy Gou, and the numbers leave no room for argument. A credit score of 897 built on 11,520 votes puts her comfortably ahead of the field, and her platform reach is on another scale entirely: 8,088,576 Spotify monthly listeners, 1,133,128 Spotify followers, 4,658,647 on Instagram, 851,181 Last.fm listeners, and 133,460 followers on Resident Advisor. Filed under techno on DJ Radar, she is South Korea's global flagbearer, full stop.

The chasing pack

Behind her, the board gets interesting. Sawteeth holds second with a credit score of 627 and 4,600 votes, flying the flag for drum & bass — a genre that rarely tops national boards anywhere. The data also logs 18 festival appearances, suggesting a working DJ earning rank the old-fashioned way.

Third place belongs to Moon Kyoo, whose melodic house and techno has drawn 4,756 votes — more than Sawteeth, notably — alongside a credit score of 593 and 59,023 Spotify monthly listeners. The vote count says his audience is engaged even where the score gap keeps him at three.

NOGYMX takes fourth on a credit score of 563, with a profile that skews toward listening platforms: 192,543 Last.fm listeners and 26,600 YouTube subscribers for his house output. Fifth-ranked Primary brings dubstep into the mix with a 557 credit score, 38,515 Instagram followers, and a striking 209,833 Last.fm listeners — the second-highest Last.fm figure in the entire top eight.

A three-point race at the middle of the board

The tightest contest on the board sits at ranks six and seven. Closet Yi, an electronica selector with a credit score of 503, leads Lisofv, a house DJ at 500, by just three points. Closet Yi's data lists 107 festival appearances — a heavy touring footprint — and 533 Resident Advisor followers, while Lisofv counters with a slightly higher vote count, 1,549 to 1,467. Expect these two to keep trading places.

Rounding out the eight is Aseul, whose electronica has earned a 465 credit score, 1,374 votes, and 64,855 Last.fm listeners — a solid listening base for the board's eighth position.

What the board says about Korea

Three things stand out. First, genre diversity: eight DJs, six distinct genres. House and electronica each appear twice, but no single sound dominates the way techno or big-room house can elsewhere. Second, the bass end is genuinely represented — Sawteeth's drum & bass and Primary's dubstep both sit inside the top five, a distribution few national boards can claim. Third, women hold three of the eight spots: Peggy Gou at the very top, Closet Yi at six, and Aseul at eight.

The gap between rank one and rank two — 897 to 627 — tells you Peggy Gou operates in her own weight class for now. But the density below her, with ranks three through seven separated by fewer than a hundred credit points (593 down to 500), points to a competitive middle order where votes and festival mileage can move the table fast. With 18 South Korean DJs on the board in total, the eight profiled here are the leading edge of a scene with real depth behind it.
