Psytrance's Vanguard: The Eight DJs Leading the Genre on DJ Radar
By Imani Brooks·July 17, 2026

The Class at the Top
Psytrance is one of electronic music's most self-sustaining ecosystems, built on festivals, dedicated online communities, and a listenership that follows producers across decades rather than singles. On DJ Radar, 1,014 DJs currently sit on the psytrance board, and the top eight tell a clear story about where the genre's center of gravity lies.
Leading the pack is Vini Vici (Israel), with a credit score of 874 and 10,470 votes — both the highest figures on the board. That combination of critical standing and voter support puts a comfortable gap between the top spot and the chasing pack.
The Israeli Core
What stands out immediately is geography. Four of the top eight — Vini Vici, Infected Mushroom (rank 2, credit score 842), Astrix (rank 3, 836), and Bliss (rank 6, 809) — list Israel as their country. That concentration reflects a scene where Israel has long been a hub for the psytrance sound, and the rankings bear that out.
Second and third are separated by just six points: Infected Mushroom at 842 and Astrix at 836. Their streaming footprints diverge in interesting ways. Infected Mushroom carries 1,042,022 Last.fm listeners — the largest scrobble base in the top eight — alongside 822,267 Spotify followers. Astrix, meanwhile, shows deep engagement on SoundCloud with 481,389 followers, a platform that has always been central to how psytrance sets circulate.
Beyond Israel
The rest of the leaderboard broadens the map. Liquid Soul (Switzerland) sits fourth with a credit score of 823 and, notably, 884,000 YouTube subscribers — the highest video following in this group. Protoculture (South Africa) holds fifth at 818.
The bottom of the top eight is genuinely close: Bliss (809), Simon Patterson (United Kingdom, 807), and Neelix (Germany, 805) are separated by just four points across three ranks. Any of them could shuffle position with a modest swing in votes. Simon Patterson brings a strong Mixcloud presence with 19,205 followers, while Neelix posts one of the larger Spotify monthly listener counts in the group at 771,814.
Reading the Numbers
Streaming reach and credit score don't move in lockstep here, which is part of what makes the psytrance board worth reading closely. Vini Vici tops the credit standings and also posts a large Spotify monthly listenership of 3,132,968, but further down the list, producers with more modest streaming numbers still rank highly on the strength of votes and credit — a reminder that in this genre, live reputation and community standing carry as much weight as playlist placement.
Infected Mushroom's scrobble dominance, Liquid Soul's video audience, and Astrix's SoundCloud depth each point to a different route to the same tier. The through-line is longevity: these are established names, and their positions reflect years of accumulated trust from a famously loyal fanbase.
With the gap between ranks six and eight measured in single digits, the middle of this leaderboard is the part to watch as votes continue to come in.
