Psytrance Power Rankings: Israel's Grip on the Global Scene, by the Numbers

Psytrance has always been electronic music's great outsider — a scene that thrives in forests, deserts and festival valleys rather than superclubs, built on relentless basslines, hypnotic repetition and sound design that rewards total immersion. On DJ Radar right now, 1,015 DJs compete on the psytrance board. The top of it tells a very clear story.

An Israeli stronghold

Four of the current top eight are Israeli. Vini Vici sit at No. 1 with a credit score of 871 and 10,470 votes — the largest vote haul in the top eight by a wide margin. Their reach backs it up: 3,132,968 Spotify monthly listeners, 616,882 Spotify followers and 726,282 on Instagram. No one else in the psytrance top tier comes close on streaming.

Behind them, Infected Mushroom (No. 2, credit score 834) remain the genre's most recognizable name to outsiders. Their profile skews differently: 822,267 Spotify followers actually exceed their 765,617 monthly listeners — the mark of a deep, loyal catalogue audience — plus 281,323 on SoundCloud and 57 festival appearances logged, the most of anyone in the top eight.

Astrix completes the Israeli one-two-three at No. 3 with a score of 830 and 7,893 votes — the second-highest vote count on the board. His 481,389 SoundCloud followers and 47 festival credits speak to an artist who lives on stage as much as on streaming platforms. Further down, Ghost Rider (No. 8, score 800) rounds out the Israeli contingent with 505,092 monthly listeners.

The challengers

South Africa's Protoculture holds No. 4 with a score of 826. His Spotify footprint is modest (136,847 monthly listeners), but a two-decade catalogue spanning trance and psytrance keeps him firmly in the genre's elite — a reminder that psytrance audiences don't all live on the same platform.

Switzerland's Liquid Soul (No. 5, score 819) represents the melodic, progressive end of the spectrum, with 507,706 monthly listeners, 884,000 YouTube subscribers and 45 festivals to his name. The UK's Simon Patterson (No. 6, score 804) brings a harder, tech-driven edge and a notably engaged Mixcloud following of 19,205 — the largest in the top eight. Denmark's Bliss (No. 7, score 803) is the group's short-form outlier: 410,300 TikTok followers, orders of magnitude more than any rival here.

What the sound is now

The leaderboard sketches the genre's current shape. At the top, the full-on, festival-mainstage strain — Vini Vici's territory — commands the biggest crowds and vote counts. Around it orbit the scene's other poles: Infected Mushroom's genre-bending experimentalism, Astrix's peak-time full-on, Liquid Soul's progressive warmth, Patterson's tech-trance crossover. What unites them is the psytrance core: driving, rolling low end, psychedelic texture, and sets built for long-haul intensity rather than quick payoffs.

The spread of scores is telling, too. Just 71 credit points separate No. 1 from No. 8 — 871 down to 800 — in a field over a thousand deep. The summit is crowded, the competition is real, and the center of gravity, for now, remains firmly in Israel.
