Psytrance on DJ Radar: Vini Vici Out Front, a Tight Pack Behind

Psytrance is dance music built for immersion. It runs on hypnotic, driving rhythm, rolling basslines and layered psychedelic sound design meant to carry a floor through long sets. On DJ Radar's board of 1,014 DJs, every one of the top eight psytrance names lists Psy-Trance as their main genre. Right now the genre's leaders are artists filed under the sound itself.

Vini Vici sets the pace

Vini Vici holds No. 1 with a credit score of 914 and 11,085 votes. No one else in the top eight has more than 10,000 votes. The 35-point cushion over No. 2 is the widest gap anywhere in the leading group.

Off the board, Vini Vici counts 3,015,156 Spotify monthly listeners, 628,993 Spotify followers and 734,864 Instagram followers. That Instagram number is the highest among the leaders.

The chasing pack

Behind the leader, the race tightens sharply. From No. 2 to No. 8, no two neighbouring positions are more than eight points apart. The whole group spans just 32 points, from 879 down to 847.

Astrix sits at No. 2 on 879 with 7,935 votes, the second-highest vote total on the list. The Israeli DJ also has 1,380,000 YouTube subscribers and 481,389 SoundCloud followers.

Infected Mushroom is five points back at No. 3 with 874 and 7,199 votes. It also has the largest Spotify following in the top eight, at 836,194.

Neelix, from Germany, is just four points behind that at No. 4 on 870. Neelix's 7,210 votes actually edge Infected Mushroom's 7,199, a reminder that the credit score isn't a straight vote count.

Mandragora, from Mexico, is No. 5 on 862 with 7,558 votes. Its 822,499 Spotify monthly listeners are the second-highest figure among the leaders, alongside 801,000 YouTube subscribers.

Bliss holds No. 6 with 854 and 6,541 votes. Liquid Soul (Switzerland) and E-Type (Sweden) close out the top eight, level on 847 credit points. Liquid Soul is placed ahead and has the larger vote count, 7,556 to 6,587.

A strong Israeli core, a wide spread

Israel accounts for four of the top eight: Vini Vici, Astrix, Infected Mushroom and Bliss. The other four come from four different countries (Germany, Mexico, Switzerland and Sweden), so five nations are represented in the leading group.

That mix runs from the Middle East through Europe to the Americas. The genre's top tier isn't confined to a single scene.

What defines the scene right now

Taken as a whole, the board shows a psytrance top tier defined by consistency rather than one runaway metric. Below the leader, every credit score falls between 847 and 879.

The standout platform numbers also change from name to name. Astrix leads the group on YouTube, Infected Mushroom on Spotify followers, and Vini Vici on Spotify monthly listeners and Instagram. No single channel decides who sits where. Votes matter, but as Neelix and Infected Mushroom show, they don't settle the order on their own.

What to watch

The top spot looks secure for now. Vini Vici's 35-point lead over No. 2 is larger than the 32 points separating No. 2 from No. 8.

Below that, it's a different story. Neighbouring positions are separated by single digits and there's a dead heat at 847, so small swings could reshuffle the order from No. 2 downward. The one to watch is Infected Mushroom against Neelix, four points apart.
