Portugal's DJ Vanguard: 76 Artists Deep and Led by an 11-Point Melodic Duel

Portugal's presence on DJ Radar is no longer a footnote. With 76 DJs currently on the board, the country has built one of the more genre-diverse top tables in Europe — and the race at its summit is genuinely close.

A melodic duel at the top

Xinobi holds the number one spot with a credit score of 797, built on 6,860 votes. Right behind sits Rui da Silva at 786 — an 11-point gap that keeps this a live contest. Both artists are filed under Melodic House & Techno, and both command serious streaming audiences: Xinobi draws 1,227,238 Spotify monthly listeners, while Rui da Silva actually edges ahead on that platform with 1,522,464. On Last.fm the picture repeats — 230,722 listeners for Rui da Silva against Xinobi's 188,395. Xinobi's edge lives elsewhere: 50,786 Instagram followers, 44,090 on SoundCloud, and 15,738 on Resident Advisor, the strongest RA following in the Portuguese top eight.

Techno's tight grip on the middle

Third place belongs to Mastiksoul at 781 — just five points off second — whose profile skews social rather than streaming: 115,340 Instagram followers and 96,175 on SoundCloud, both the largest such counts among the top three. Fourth-ranked Lewis Fautzi (765) is the board's road warrior, with 102 festivals logged — the only festival count in the data, and a striking one. His numbers elsewhere are leaner (38,084 Spotify monthly listeners, 40,000 on Instagram), which tells you his reputation is being built in rooms and on stages as much as on playlists.

Taken together, the top three sit within 16 credit points of each other. In ranking terms, that's a photo finish waiting for the next voting cycle.

Beyond the four-four

What makes Portugal's board distinctive is what happens from fifth place down. Kaya Project (762) brings Psy-Trance into the top five, with 135,597 Last.fm listeners and 77,193 Spotify followers. Woo York (761) — separated from Kaya Project by a single point — adds another melodic entry with 101,460 Instagram followers and 11,382 on RA.

Seventh-ranked Jade is the streaming heavyweight of the entire list: 1,811,312 Spotify monthly listeners, 351,019 Spotify followers, and 620,906 Last.fm listeners, all attached to a Drum & Bass profile — the only bass-family entry in the top eight. And in eighth, Teto flies the flag for House with 558,426 monthly listeners and a remarkable 500,626 Spotify followers, a follower base that nearly matches the monthly-listener figure.

The takeaway

Five genre families — melodic, techno, psy-trance, bass, and house — inside a single national top eight is rare air. Most countries' boards consolidate around one or two dominant sounds; Portugal's splits almost evenly, with melodic house and techno holding three of the eight seats, straight techno two more, and psy-trance, drum & bass, and house each claiming their own.

The vote counts underline how engaged this scene's audience is: every artist in the top eight cleared 5,700 votes, with Xinobi's 6,860 leading and Teto — despite ranking eighth — pulling 6,432, more than the fourth, fifth, and sixth-placed artists. That's not a top-heavy fanbase rubber-stamping one star; it's a voting public paying attention all the way down the list.

With an 11-point margin at the top, a five-point gap to third, and depth across five genre families, Portugal's board is set up for movement. Watch the melodic duel — but don't sleep on the rest of the card.
