Jamaica on DJ Radar: Squash Leads a Crowded Top Six

Twenty-six DJs are listed on DJ Radar's board for Jamaica (JM). It's a small field, but the top is crowded. Six artists sit between 726 and 771 credit points, a 45-point band, and then the table drops away sharply.

Squash on top, narrowly

Squash holds No. 1 with a credit score of 771 from 5,633 votes. He is filed under House and has the biggest streaming footprint in the top eight: 331,288 Spotify monthly listeners and 301,347 followers, plus 711,221 on Instagram.

The lead is not comfortable. TYGAPAW is second on 763, just 8 points back, with 5,430 votes. TYGAPAW is one of two Techno names in the top eight and has the highest Resident Advisor following on the list at 1,947. Add 8,582 SoundCloud followers, 227 on Mixcloud and a festival count of 104. The Spotify numbers are smaller, at 9,114 monthly listeners. Several bigger streamers rank below TYGAPAW, so streaming alone clearly doesn't decide this table.

The Electronica core

Electronica is the most common main genre in the top eight, with three names: Niney the Observer, King Tubby and Xana Romeo.

Niney the Observer sits third on 749 with 5,060 votes, drawing 39,013 Spotify monthly listeners and 54,547 Last.fm listeners.

King Tubby is fourth on 742 but leads the entire list on votes with 5,945. He also has the largest Last.fm audience in the data, 330,631 listeners, plus 213,113 Spotify monthly listeners. He tops the ballot count and still lands fourth, a sharp reminder that votes alone don't set the order.

Xana Romeo closes out the top six on 726 with 5,394 votes, only 36 behind TYGAPAW. Her numbers are spread across platforms: 25,395 Spotify monthly listeners, 28,233 Instagram followers, 3,540 YouTube subscribers and 3,239 on SoundCloud.

Bass weight

Scientist is fifth on 736 with 5,072 votes. He is the only Dubstep name in the top eight and its only bass-family entry. His audience is substantial: 112,389 Spotify monthly listeners and 223,936 on Last.fm, second only to King Tubby there, plus 1,167 Resident Advisor followers.

The cliff

Below sixth, the gap opens. RajahWild is seventh on 545 with 1,934 votes, 181 points behind Xana Romeo. Classified as Dance / Pop, RajahWild is the top eight's only commercial-family entry.

Marksman rounds out the eight on 519 with 1,720 votes. The second Techno name after TYGAPAW, Marksman shows 71,500 YouTube subscribers, 20,865 Last.fm listeners and 1,243 Resident Advisor followers.

The vote counts tell the same story as the scores. All six artists above the line have cleared 5,000 votes, while seventh and eighth are both under 2,000.

The local flavour

What defines JM's board is range. The top eight cover five genre families: house, techno, bass, commercial, and the other family that holds the three Electronica names. No single sound owns the top. The No. 1 is filed under House, No. 2 under Techno, and the next four split between Electronica and Dubstep.

That spread is the scene's calling card on DJ Radar. With only 8 points between first and second, the top spot is far from settled.

There are 26 DJs on the board and a clear line at sixth place. For the chasing pack, the question is simple: who closes the 181-point gap first?
