Hong Kong on DJ Radar: Three Artists, 18 Points, Three Different Sounds

A small board with a crowded top

Hong Kong currently has five DJs ranked on DJ Radar. The board is small, but the top of it is crowded. The three leading artists sit within 18 credit points of each other, and between them they cover three very different sounds.

Below them is a clear gap. Positions four and five are a separate race, more than 200 points further down. Hong Kong's ranking looks less like a ladder and more like two tiers: a closely fought top three and a chasing pair.

N.O.A: Hard Dance at No. 1

N.O.A leads the country with a credit score of 572 from 3,540 votes. N.O.A's main genre is Hard Dance, which makes this the only hard-family act among Hong Kong's ranked five. Having a hard-edged sound at the top of a board otherwise built on melodic and electronica artists gives the ranking an unexpected bite.

On the platforms, N.O.A shows 13,374 Instagram followers alongside 1,030 Spotify followers and 200 monthly listeners.

Celestial 天上: the most votes, second place

Celestial 天上 is the most interesting result in the table. The act has the most votes of any Hong Kong DJ, 3,571, which is 31 more than N.O.A. Even so, Celestial ranks second with a credit score of 558. Fan support counts for a lot on DJ Radar, but the votes alone don't decide the order.

Celestial's lane is Melodic House & Techno. The bilingual name, with the Chinese characters 天上 beside the English, fits that sound well. On streaming, the act lists 3,142 Spotify monthly listeners and 755 followers.

Janette Slack: third, and fewest votes in the top tier

Janette Slack completes the leading group in third with 554 points. That is 4 points behind Celestial and 18 behind the leader. She reaches that score with 1,815 votes, about half the count of the two artists above her. Her credit score is doing a lot of work relative to her vote total.

Her genre is Electronica, and her profile leans toward the mix-and-upload platforms. She shows 3,058 Mixcloud followers and 2,134 on SoundCloud, plus 6,579 on Instagram and 1,390 Last.fm listeners. Of the top three, she is the most heavily weighted toward Mixcloud and SoundCloud.

The chasing pair: Ardolf and Norvik

The second tier is close too. Ardolf holds fourth on 351 points from 777 votes, playing Melodic House & Techno. Norvik is fifth on 346 from 820 votes, in Electronica. Only five points separate them, and Norvik has more votes than Ardolf despite ranking below him. That repeats the vote-versus-score pattern from the top of the table.

The pair's platform numbers are uneven across services. We'd be cautious about reading too much into any single figure there.

The Hong Kong flavour

The genre mix is what defines Hong Kong's board. Two Melodic House & Techno acts, two Electronica artists and one Hard Dance headliner make for a scene with no single dominant sound. Melodic and electronica artists fill four of the five spots, while the hard-dance outlier holds first place.

The main story is the top three. With 18 points covering first to third, and the vote leader not holding first, small swings in support could reshuffle the order. Hong Kong's chart is one worth refreshing.
