Hard Truths: Inside DJ Radar's Hard Scene Top Eight, Where Nine Points Separate the Leaders
By Mara Quinn·July 29, 2026

The hard family is the loudest church in dance music, and on DJ Radar it is also one of the most crowded: 277 DJs currently sit on the board. But the top of the table tells a focused story — one dominated by the Netherlands, stretched across four distinct shades of hard, and led by a race that is genuinely close.
The summit: a nine-point race
Sub Zero Project holds the number one spot with a credit score of 846, built on 8,122 votes — the largest vote count anywhere in the top eight. The Dutch hardstyle act also posts serious streaming weight: 1,227,700 Spotify monthly listeners and 772,000 YouTube subscribers.
Breathing down their neck is Lil Texas. The American hard techno artist sits at 837 — just nine points back — with 7,946 votes and the second-highest Spotify monthly listener count in the top eight at 2,287,871. That an American hard techno act is this close to the summit of a board long associated with European hardstyle is one of the more interesting storylines on DJ Radar right now.
The chasing pack
Third place belongs to S3RL, the Australian hardcore artist, at 821. On pure streaming reach, S3RL is the biggest name here: 3,561,272 Spotify monthly listeners, 620,516 Spotify followers, and a striking 597,641 Last.fm listeners — the highest of anyone in the top eight on that platform. Hardcore's happy-hardcore lineage clearly still converts to plays.
Da Tweekaz, the Norwegian hardstyle act, take fourth at 816, backed by 1,684,266 monthly listeners on Spotify and 324,795 Instagram followers. The UK's Darren Styles — flying the hard dance flag — lands fifth at 813 with 1,907,237 Spotify monthly listeners, a reminder that his catalogue travels far beyond the festival main stage.
The Dutch engine room
From sixth through eighth, the board turns almost entirely orange. Angerfist (809), Wildstylez (807), and Atmozfears (803) join Sub Zero Project to give the Netherlands four of the top eight positions. Angerfist, filed under hard dance, brings the biggest SoundCloud audience in this group — 293,384 followers — plus the strongest Resident Advisor presence at 7,316 followers. Wildstylez, a hardstyle mainstay, actually out-polls several artists above him with 7,693 votes despite sitting seventh, suggesting a passionate voter base that the credit score doesn't fully capture. Atmozfears rounds out the eight at 803, keeping the gap from first to eighth at a compact 43 points.
What defines the sound right now
The genre labels across these eight artists sketch the current shape of hard: hardstyle claims four of the eight slots (Sub Zero Project, Da Tweekaz, Wildstylez, Atmozfears), hard dance takes two (Angerfist, Darren Styles), with hard techno (Lil Texas) and hardcore (S3RL) claiming one apiece. Geographically, the story is a Dutch core with strong satellites — Norway, the UK, Australia, and the United States all place an artist.
Two takeaways stand out. First, hard is not a monolith: the board rewards everything from hardcore's melodic extremes to hard techno's stripped-down aggression. Second, the competition is real. With 846 at the top, 803 in eighth, and every artist in between polling above 7,100 votes, this is a scene where engaged fanbases — not just streaming numbers — decide who leads. Sub Zero Project wear the crown today, but with Lil Texas nine points behind, nobody at the top of the hard board can afford to coast.
