France's DJ Scene in 2026: Guetta Still Reigns, But the Techno Underground Is Closing Fast
By Mara Quinn·July 5, 2026

There are 745 French DJs currently tracked on DJ Radar. Sit with that number for a moment. This isn't a country with a handful of superstar exports and a thin bench behind them — it's one of the deepest talent pools in electronic music, and the current top eight tells you exactly why.
The king stays the king
At the summit, no surprises: David Guetta, credit score 920, backed by 11,970 votes and a frankly absurd 88,325,700 Spotify monthly listeners. Add 12.2 million Instagram followers and 169 festival appearances, and Guetta remains the reference point not just for France but for commercial dance music globally. His numbers operate on a different scale to everyone else on this list.
The techno insurgent
But the most interesting story sits at number two. I Hate Models — credit score 893, 11,670 votes, just 300 votes shy of Guetta — is proof that France's harder underground has genuine mass appeal. The contrast in profiles is striking: 658,674 Spotify monthly listeners against Guetta's 88 million, yet 421 festival appearances, more than double anyone else in the French top eight. This is an artist built on the road and in the room, not the algorithm. With 43,576 Resident Advisor followers and over a million on Instagram, I Hate Models has turned uncompromising techno into a stadium-scale proposition.
House is the backbone
Strip out the two commercial giants and what's left is overwhelmingly house. Bob Sinclar (882, 21.9 million monthly listeners, 761,800 TikTok followers) proves longevity is a French specialty. HUGEL at four (880) is arguably the scene's biggest current crossover engine — 31.7 million monthly listeners, 2.6 million Instagram followers, 178 festival slots. Matt Sassari brings tech house muscle at six (855), with 9.2 million monthly listeners and a notable 255,000 YouTube subscribers. Martin Solveig (844) rounds out the veteran class with over a million SoundCloud followers, while Cassian (843) closes the eight — matching Guetta's 169 festival count with a fraction of the streaming footprint.
That's five house or tech house artists out of eight. If French touch defined an era two decades ago, the current generation has quietly made house the country's default export again.
What the numbers say
Two things stand out. First, the compression: from Guetta's 920 down to Cassian's 843, only 77 credit points separate first from eighth. This is a genuinely competitive board, not a monarchy with a distant court.
Second, the split personality. DJ Snake at five (862, 49.6 million monthly listeners, 10.4 million Instagram followers) and Guetta represent France's pop-facing machine. I Hate Models represents its warehouse soul. The house contingent bridges the two. Few national scenes sustain all three lanes at this level simultaneously — France does it while fielding 745 ranked DJs behind them.
One caveat worth naming: the top eight is heavily male, a pattern the depth of the French board will hopefully disrupt as the next wave rises.
The takeaway is simple. France isn't riding one sound or one star. It's running a full portfolio — festival-headlining pop-dance, relentless touring techno, and a house lineage that refuses to age. Watch the vote counts: with I Hate Models within touching distance of Guetta, the top of the French board is no longer a foregone conclusion.
