Dominican Republic Scene Report: DJ Eric's Trance Lead Over an Electronica-Rich Board

The Dominican Republic's presence on DJ Radar is compact, with eight names on the board, but the sounds vary. Trance sits at the top, techno and dubstep each hold a corner, and Electronica takes up most of the space in between with five of the eight spots. The board has a clear leader and a crowded, competitive middle.

DJ Eric: a clear number one

There is no debate at the top. DJ Eric leads the DO board with a credit score of 720 on 5,198 votes. That is more votes than the next three names combined. His 209-point lead over second place is the widest gap anywhere in these standings.

The streaming numbers back it up: 79,534 Spotify monthly listeners, 47,481 Spotify followers and 4,837 Last.fm listeners. He is the board's only trance DJ, so the country's top spot belongs to a trance artist.

The Electronica core

Emi holds second with a credit score of 511 from 1,567 votes and has 13,551 Instagram followers. Afrodita is third on 450 points and 1,347 votes, with 1,009 Instagram followers and 58 on TikTok.

The Electronica group keeps going further down the table. eMeTeDe is fifth with 373 points from 1,070 votes. Sandy MC is sixth on 344 points and 674 votes, with 317 SoundCloud followers. José Ernesto Chapuseaux completes the group in seventh, scoring 296 from 461 votes.

That makes five Electronica acts between second and seventh place. Electronica is a wide umbrella, and on this board it is the most common tag. The Dominican middle tier is not built around one narrow club sound. It is a broad category with a lot of people competing in it.

Bryan Brack and the votes-versus-score wrinkle

Bryan Brack is the board's techno representative, ranked fourth with a credit score of 420. His 1,456 votes are more than Afrodita's 1,347, yet Afrodita sits one place higher and 30 points clear. On this board, rank follows credit score, not raw vote totals.

Bryan Brack's profile also has some club-circuit markers: 49 Resident Advisor followers and one festival on record, alongside 5,869 Instagram followers. Among a mostly Electronica field, he is the one name carrying techno.

CANOTO brings the bass

CANOTO closes out the board in eighth. It is the DO scene's only dubstep entry and its only bass-family act, with a credit score of 190 from 331 votes. The step up to seventh is 106 points, the second-widest gap on the board. Even so, CANOTO's place in the top eight shows the Dominican board is not limited to one or two sounds.

The DO flavour

Taken together, the Dominican Republic's DJ Radar picture looks like this: a trance headliner well out in front, a deep Electronica bench, a techno name in the middle of the pack, and a dubstep act at the edge.

The real competition is in the middle of the table. From third to seventh, no two neighbouring names are more than 48 points apart. Afrodita and Bryan Brack, 30 points apart in the 400s, are the pair to watch.

At the top, DJ Eric's lead is large. Below him, the Dominican board is still wide open.
