Deep House Right Now: 6 Points Separate DJ Radar's Top Three

DJ Radar's deephouse board counts 486 DJs, but the top of it comes down to eight names. The margins between them are slim, and their profiles could hardly be more different.

A summit decided by single digits

Robin Schulz holds No. 1 with a credit score of 918. Nora en Pure sits second on 913, and Lost Frequencies is one point behind at 912. That is 6 points across the whole podium, and just 1 between second and third.

The chasing pack is close as well. KAYTRANADA (904), CamelPhat (901), Gorgon City (898) and Maddix (894) keep the top seven within 24 points of one another. MEDUZA completes the leading eight at 879, 15 points behind Maddix and 39 off the top.

Votes don't settle the order

The most revealing thing on this board is how loosely votes map to rank. Nora en Pure has the largest vote count among the leaders, 11,227, yet trails Robin Schulz, who leads on 9,211. Maddix draws the second-highest total, 11,015, and still sits seventh. Whatever else feeds a credit score, vote volume alone doesn't decide it.

It works the other way too. MEDUZA has the fewest votes in the top eight, 7,739, while carrying 11,534,351 Spotify monthly listeners, the third-largest streaming audience in the group.

Two scales of reach

On Spotify, deep house's leaders split into distinct tiers. Robin Schulz (25,847,992 monthly listeners) and Lost Frequencies (21,173,176) sit well clear of the field, and they also hold the two largest Spotify follower counts, 3,493,333 and 3,236,936. Robin Schulz adds 3,800,000 YouTube subscribers and 2,284,130 Instagram followers, the highest listed figures among the eight on both platforms.

Nora en Pure sits at the other end of that range: 1,460,663 monthly listeners, the smallest Spotify audience in the top eight, alongside second place and the leaders' biggest vote count. That combination is the clearest evidence that this ranking is not simply a streaming chart.

A different kind of reach

KAYTRANADA, Canada's entry at No. 4 on 904, shows yet another pattern. The profile carries the largest SoundCloud following listed here (751,515), the top Last.fm count among the eight (1,554,867) and 134,002 RA followers, the highest RA figure in this data. CamelPhat (74,827) and Gorgon City (67,663) follow on that measure.

Those two United Kingdom acts also sit back-to-back in the standings, 3 points apart at 901 and 898. CamelPhat has a festival count of 269 on file, while Maddix, representing the Netherlands, logs 255.

So what defines deep house right now?

A leaderboard can't tell you about tempo or texture, but it can show the shape of a scene, and on DJ Radar deep house is defined by range. All eight leaders list Deep House as their main genre, yet their Spotify monthly audiences run from 1,460,663 to 25,847,992. They come from seven countries: Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Italy. The UK is the only one with two acts.

The result is a genre where chart-scale streaming power, a vote-powered No. 2 and an SoundCloud-and-RA-heavy profile like KAYTRANADA's all sit within 14 points of each other. With a single point between second and third, nobody at the top of deep house has room to coast.
