Croatia Rising: Matroda Leads a 52-DJ Board Built on House and Bass

Croatia currently has 52 DJs on the DJ Radar board, and its top eight refuse to settle on one sound. Tech House opens and closes the list, a bass bloc holds the lower rungs, and melodic techno and psy-trance claim space in between. That is six main genres across four genre families in just eight places.

Matroda sets the ceiling

Matroda is the clear No. 1, with a credit score of 830 and 6,763 votes. His Tech House profile is backed by numbers that line up across every platform in the data: 1,608,635 Spotify monthly listeners, 179,834 Spotify followers, 189,027 Instagram followers, 241,695 Last.fm listeners, 58,800 YouTube subscribers and 18,225 Resident Advisor followers.

That consistency is the point. No single metric is doing the heavy lifting here. This is broad reach across every platform, and it puts Matroda in a bracket of his own on the Croatian board.

The chasing pack

Petar Dundov sits second on 783, 47 points behind the leader, with 5,573 votes. He carries the Melodic House & Techno flag, and his numbers lean toward the diggers' platforms: 31,764 SoundCloud followers, 38,581 Last.fm listeners and 4,277 RA followers, plus a festival count of 31.

Newtone is third on 715 with 4,809 votes, flying a straighter House banner. His 31,412 Last.fm listeners and 23,987 Spotify monthly listeners keep him firmly in the conversation, and the data logs a festival count of 115.

Insolate completes the upper tier at No. 4 with 696 points and 4,365 votes, just 19 points behind Newtone. She is the only Psy-Trance name in the top eight, bringing 18,527 Spotify monthly listeners, 1,360 RA followers and a festival count of 75.

On streaming reach alone, there is little to separate this trio: their Spotify monthly listeners run from 17,571 to 23,987. After Insolate, the board drops 134 points to the next name.

The bass engine room

Ranks five through seven belong entirely to the bass family, and this is where Croatia's board finds its grit. Logics leads the bloc at No. 5 with 562 points and 3,400 votes, flying the Drum & Bass flag.

Filip Motovunski follows on 541 with 1,710 votes, a second Drum & Bass name, posting 12,560 SoundCloud followers and 5,273 Last.fm listeners. Buntai, at No. 7 on 516, brings Dubstep into the mix with 1,902 votes, 6,853 Instagram followers and 5,308 Last.fm listeners.

One detail stands out: Buntai holds more votes than Motovunski yet ranks below, a reminder that the credit score is not a straight vote tally.

A one-point finish

The tightest margin in Croatia's top eight comes right at the bottom. Toni Varga sits at No. 8 on 515, a single point behind Buntai. Varga brings the list full circle to Tech House, with 1,627 votes, 11,947 SoundCloud followers, 897 RA followers and a festival count of 59.

The Croatian flavour

Read as a whole, the identity is clear: three house-family names (Matroda, Newtone, Toni Varga), three from the bass family (Logics, Filip Motovunski, Buntai), one melodic and one psy-trance. No family claims more than three of the eight spots.

That gives Croatia a headliner with outsized reach at the summit and real stylistic depth beneath it. A tech house set, a melodic techno journey, a psy-trance peak and a drum & bass roller all have a local name in the top tier.

And with ranks five through eight separated by just 47 points, from 562 down to 515, that is the stretch of the board to watch.
