Costa Rica's Electronic Surge: Eleven Names Redrawing the CR Scene
By Imani Brooks·July 13, 2026

A scene finding its shape
Costa Rica currently holds 11 DJs on the DJ Radar board, and the shortlist that leads it tells a clear story: this is a country that leans on floor-filling House, deep Psy-Trance, and the wider Trance spectrum, with pop-facing and bass-driven outliers pushing at the edges.
At the top sits Shinnobu, a House artist with a credit score of 663 and 5,512 votes — the most decisive lead in the national field. That standing is backed by a rounded profile: 79,807 Spotify monthly listeners, 16,073 Spotify followers, 93,500 YouTube subscribers, and 8,619 Last.fm listeners. Few names in the region carry numbers that line up this consistently across platforms, and it shows in the ranking.
The Psy-Trance heartbeat
Dig past the top spot and the country's identity comes into focus. Frantic Noise (Psy-Trance, credit score 547, 1,906 votes) sits at rank three, just 14 points ahead of fellow Psy-Trance act Vince Blakk (rank four, credit score 533, 2,100 votes). Notably, Vince Blakk actually logs more votes despite the narrower score — a reminder that the board weighs more than raw tallies.
That Psy-Trance double act, plus Sound Alchemist (Trance, credit score 451, 1,327 votes) at rank six, gives the CR scene a distinctly hypnotic, high-BPM backbone. This isn't a country chasing a single trend; it's one where the trance family has real roots.
House, twice over
House bookends the leaderboard. Alongside frontrunner Shinnobu, Shinobu Entsu holds rank five with a credit score of 505 and 2,707 votes — the second-highest vote count in the entire national top eight. That level of grassroots support suggests a following that shows up, even where other metrics are patchier.
The wildcards
Costa Rica's board isn't monochrome. Kybba ranks second overall (Dance / Pop, credit score 554, 1,985 votes), the country's strongest commercial crossover presence. Rank seven belongs to Moonlight Dub Xperiment (Electronica, credit score 427, 1,348 votes), whose sound sits outside the club-focused pack entirely.
And at rank eight, Jorei flies the flag for Drum & Bass — the only bass-family name in the top tier — with a credit score of 410 and 1,222 votes. Jorei, listed as female, is a lone voice in a genre lane that few of her CR peers occupy, which makes her presence on the board worth watching.
What the numbers say
The throughline is genre breadth anchored by trance-leaning weight. House claims the top position and a mid-table anchor; Psy-Trance supplies the tightly-packed middle; Trance, Electronica, Dance / Pop, and Drum & Bass fill out a scene that refuses to be pinned to one sound.
Shinnobu's lead is clear, but the 14-point gap between Frantic Noise and Vince Blakk hints at a middle order that could reshuffle quickly. For a scene with 11 names on the board and this much stylistic range, Costa Rica looks less like a footnote and more like a region worth checking back on.
