Commercial Dance, Decoded: Who Leads DJ Radar's Mainstream Board Right Now

Commercial dance is electronic music built to travel as far as possible: from the festival mainstage to the pop playlist to the phone screen. On DJ Radar, the commercial family currently has 92 DJs on the board. The top of that table is where votes, reach and score meet most directly.

Two sounds, one family

Read the main-genre tags across the top eight and the scene splits into two clear camps. Dance / Pop (David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Avicii) is the song-first wing, where club production meets hooks and radio-ready structure. Big Room (Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Swedish House Mafia) is the festival wing, built around the build, the drop and the release of a huge crowd. Alok, tagged Mainstage, sits between them, and the label says plenty about where this music is meant to be heard.

Big Room holds four of the eight spots. Dance / Pop holds three, including No. 1.

The summit

David Guetta leads with a credit score of 995 on 85,688 votes, the biggest vote count among the leaders by a wide margin. Guetta's reach matches the rank: 82,041,818 Spotify monthly listeners and 27,900,000 YouTube subscribers, both the highest in the top eight.

Martin Garrix is second on 987, eight points back. Garrix brings 53,013 votes, the second-largest total, plus 15,323,936 Instagram followers, more than Guetta's 12,453,314.

The Calvin Harris question

Then the gap opens. Calvin Harris is third on 945, 42 points behind Garrix. On streaming alone, Harris looks like a title contender: 73,679,829 Spotify monthly listeners, second only to Guetta and more than three times Garrix's 22,286,411. But Harris's vote count, 14,755, is a fraction of what the two names above have.

This is the clearest sign that the board is not just a streaming chart under another name. Listener reach counts, and so does a fanbase that turns up to vote.

The pack: six points, four names

Below the top three, the race closes up. Hardwell is fourth on 924. Behind that, ranks five through eight span just six points: Alok on 918, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on 917, then Swedish House Mafia and Avicii level on 912.

Alok and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are separated by a single point and only 79 votes: 12,993 against 12,914. Hardwell's 13,163 votes sit just above both, and Swedish House Mafia follows on 11,444. Alok also posts the largest Instagram (28,711,044) and TikTok (15,100,000) counts among the eight.

Avicii closes the top eight on 8,964 votes, the lowest in the group. Yet Avicii carries 37,981,181 Spotify monthly listeners and 21,600,000 YouTube subscribers. Both figures beat Garrix and every name ranked fourth through seventh.

The map

Seven of the eight leaders come from Europe. The Netherlands (Garrix, Hardwell) and Sweden (Swedish House Mafia, Avicii) place two each. France, the United Kingdom and Belgium have one apiece. Brazil, through Alok, is the only entry from outside Europe.

What defines commercial right now

Strip the numbers back and the commercial scene comes down to two competing instincts. Dance / Pop goes after the song that lives beyond the club. Big Room goes after the moment a field full of people hits the drop together.

The current board rewards both. Dance / Pop owns the top spot, and Big Room fills most of the chasing pack. With ranks five through eight packed into six points, the order there is far from settled.
