Big Room Still Runs It: Inside the Commercial Top Eight on DJ Radar
By Devon Pierce·July 26, 2026

Commercial dance is the format everyone claims to have moved past and nobody actually leaves. It is also, by volume, one of the deepest fields on DJ Radar: 92 DJs currently sit in the commercial genre family, and the eight at the top of it are separated by just 51 credit points, from 928 down to 877.
The leaders
David Guetta (France) sits at No. 1 with a credit score of 928 from 11,970 votes — the highest vote count on the board. His Dance / Pop profile carries 87,684,123 Spotify monthly listeners and 28,205,283 Spotify followers, the largest streaming footprint among the leaders.
Behind him, Martin Garrix (Netherlands) takes No. 2 on 909 and 11,910 votes, filed under Big Room. Calvin Harris (United Kingdom) is No. 3 on 905 from 11,820 votes, with 80,769,216 monthly listeners — the only figure in the same bracket as Guetta's.
The top four are remarkably level on turnout: every one of them clears 11,700 votes, with Guetta, Garrix, Harris and Alok separated by 180 votes in total.
Alok (Brazil, Big Room) holds No. 4 on 885, one point ahead of Hardwell (Netherlands) at 884. That is as close as the board gets. Alok's social profile is the widest of the group — 28,890,588 Instagram followers and 15,100,000 on TikTok — while Hardwell's 1,650,000 YouTube subscribers is the largest YouTube figure among the eight.
Swedish House Mafia (Sweden) rank sixth on 878, and are worth a second look: their 10,980 votes actually exceed Hardwell's 10,680, a reminder that credit score and raw turnout are not the same instrument.
The bottom of the top eight is a genuine tie. Steve Aoki (United States) and Afrojack (Netherlands) both score 877, split only by votes — 8,926 to 8,490.
What defines the sound
Look at the main-genre tags and the picture sharpens. Five of the eight leaders — Garrix, Alok, Hardwell, Aoki, Afrojack — are logged as Big Room. The other three — Guetta, Harris, Swedish House Mafia — sit under Dance / Pop.
That split is the whole story of the format. Big Room is the festival-native strain: built for the drop, engineered for a main stage, structurally uninterested in subtlety. Dance / Pop is the radio-native strain, where the song and the vocal do the heavy lifting and the production frames rather than dominates.
What's telling is that neither wing dominates the scoreboard. Dance / Pop takes two of the top three; Big Room takes five of the eight. The commercial ceiling is reachable from either direction.
Geography
The Netherlands places three DJs in the top eight — Garrix, Hardwell and Afrojack, all Big Room. France, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Sweden and the United States take one apiece. For a format often described as globally homogenous, the Dutch pipeline remains the single most concentrated source of talent at the top.
The read
Guetta's 19-point cushion over Garrix is the only meaningful gap in the top eight. Below that, the field compresses fast: 885, 884, 878, 877, 877. Four DJs sit inside eight points of each other, and two are dead level.
This is not a settled hierarchy. It's a leader and a queue.
