Bass Royalty: Skrillex, Sub Focus and ILLENIUM Lead DJ Radar's Top 3 Bass DJs

By Renata Alves·July 8, 2026

Bass music has never been a monolith, and this Top 3 proves it. Two dubstep architects from the United States bookend a British drum & bass institution, and the credit scores that separate them — 921, 874, 858 — tell a story about three very different routes to the same summit.

#3: ILLENIUM — the emotional heavyweight

ILLENIUM's 858 credit score comes with a notable wrinkle: his 8,359 votes actually outnumber Sub Focus's tally above him. The American dubstep producer commands a streaming audience that dwarfs most of the bass field — 10,115,951 Spotify monthly listeners and 1,730,373 Spotify followers — alongside 1,161,902 Instagram followers and 536,000 on TikTok. His 607,084 SoundCloud followers round out a profile built on mass connection rather than underground cachet (his Mixcloud count sits at a charmingly modest 93). The vote count says the fanbase is loud; the score says the panel wants a little more before he climbs.

#2: Sub Focus — the road warrior

Sub Focus is the outlier here in the best way. The United Kingdom's drum & bass standard-bearer posts the smallest streaming numbers of the trio — 4,377,215 Spotify monthly listeners, 624,173 Spotify followers — yet lands at #2 with a credit score of 874 and 7,965 votes. The explanation is right there in the data: 106 festival appearances, more than double Skrillex's 50 and the highest count in this ranking by a distance. Add 894,566 SoundCloud followers and 41,172 on Resident Advisor — a platform where dance-floor credibility is currency — and you get a DJ whose reputation is built where bass music actually lives: in front of crowds. In a ranking where social reach often does the heavy lifting, Sub Focus is proof that relentless touring still moves the needle.

#1: Skrillex — still the center of gravity

There was never much suspense at the top. Skrillex's 921 credit score arrives with 11,460 votes — the most in the field — and a platform footprint no bass artist can touch: 22,231,503 Spotify monthly listeners, 7,670,126 Spotify followers, 12,083,723 Instagram followers, 2,460,000 YouTube subscribers, 6,675,563 on SoundCloud and 1,000,000 on TikTok. Even his 89,527 Resident Advisor followers — more than double Sub Focus's — signal that the American dubstep pioneer holds credibility with the heads as well as the masses. Fifty festival appearances keep him present on the circuit, but the truth is Skrillex doesn't need volume to stay dominant. He is the reference point the rest of the genre still measures itself against.

The shape of the scene

Zoom out and the pattern is instructive. The gap between #1 and #2 is 47 points — the widest in the table — while only 16 points separate Sub Focus from ILLENIUM. That tight second-place battle is where the tension lives: a UK drum & bass veteran with an unmatched festival CV against an American streaming giant with a bigger, louder voting bloc. Two dubstep artists and one drum & bass act in the Top 3 also confirms what the numbers have suggested for a while: the bass family remains an American-dominated conversation at the top, with the UK's D&B lineage holding its ground through sheer graft.

Skrillex's throne looks secure for now. But with ILLENIUM out-polling the man directly above him and Sub Focus stacking festival dates at twice the rate of anyone else here, the next edition of this ranking is anything but settled.
