Bass on DJ Radar: Skrillex Leads, and a Two-Point Scrap Decides the Podium

Bass isn't one genre. On DJ Radar it's a family — drum & bass, dubstep, breakbeat and the harder-to-pin "Bass / Club" lane — and right now 2,110 DJs are competing on the board under that umbrella. What unites them is less a tempo than a philosophy: low-end as the lead instrument, sound design as songwriting, and a live culture built on impact rather than groove alone.

The clear number one

Skrillex (United States, Bass / Club) tops the table with a credit score of 923 from 11,460 votes — the highest score and the highest vote count on the leaderboard. The platform numbers back the rank rather than flattering it: 22,231,503 Spotify monthly listeners, 7,670,126 Spotify followers, and 12,083,723 on Instagram. At 48 points clear of second place, this isn't a contested crown. In a field this crowded, that margin is the story.

A genuinely tight podium fight

Below him, the race compresses hard. Sub Focus (United Kingdom, Drum & Bass) holds second on 875, and then comes the squeeze: Fatboy Slim at 861, ILLENIUM at 860, Chase & Status at 859. Three acts, three different flavours of bass — breakbeat, dubstep, drum & bass — separated by two points. That's as close as a ranking gets, and it captures something true about the scene: no single sub-genre owns the conversation.

ILLENIUM (United States, Dubstep) is the streaming heavyweight of that trio, with 10,115,951 Spotify monthly listeners, while Fatboy Slim pairs 7,641,169 monthly listeners with 2,619,287 listeners on Last.fm — a catalogue audience that keeps showing up. Chase & Status (United Kingdom, Drum & Bass) round out the group on 859 with 4,959,137 monthly listeners.

The chasing pack

Zeds Dead (Canada, Bass / Club) sit sixth on 849, followed by Borgore (Israel, Dubstep) on 846 and Andy C (United Kingdom, Drum & Bass) on 842. Worth noting: rank and fan engagement don't move in lockstep here. ILLENIUM's 8,359 votes, Borgore's 8,110 and Zeds Dead's 8,081 all exceed the vote counts of some artists ranked above them — evidence that the middle of this table is powered by highly active fanbases, not just legacy standing.

What the board says about the sound

Read the top eight as a map and two things jump out. First, the United Kingdom's grip on the low end: four of the eight leaders are British, and all three drum & bass entries — Sub Focus, Chase & Status, Andy C — fly the UK flag. D&B remains the most represented single genre at the top of the bass board.

Second, the family is stylistically split almost evenly: three drum & bass acts, two dubstep, two Bass / Club, one breakbeat. From ranks one through eight, the spread is 923 down to 842 — but strip out Skrillex's outlier score and the remaining seven sit within 33 points of each other. Bass in 2026 isn't a pyramid with one sound on top. It's a broad plateau where a festival-scale American star, UK junglists with decades of pedigree, and dubstep's melodic and heavyweight wings all hold near-equal claim.

The leader is settled. Everything underneath is very much live.
