Azerbaijan Rising: Inside the AZ Scene Shaping DJ Radar's Board
By Imani Brooks·August 7, 2026

Azerbaijan is not a market most global lineups check first — and that is exactly why the current DJ Radar board deserves a closer look. Ten DJs from AZ now hold positions on the ranking, and the top eight sketch a scene with a clear identity: a bass-music figurehead out front, a deep-house heartland in the middle, and electronica outliers keeping the edges interesting.
The frontrunner
At No. 1 sits Motive, the board's lone drum & bass act — and its clear leader. A credit score of 751 and 6,956 votes put daylight between Motive and the rest of the field; second place trails by 94 points. In a table otherwise built on house and its variants, a bass artist commanding the top spot says something about where Azerbaijani listeners are willing to go.
The chaser
Denis A holds No. 2 with a 657 credit score and 5,046 votes, flying the tech house flag. His profile is the most stage-tested in the data: four festival appearances on record, 29,289 SoundCloud followers and a presence on Resident Advisor with 481 followers there. If Motive is the streaming-era face of AZ, Denis A reads like its working circuit DJ.
Deep house: the local dialect
Scan the middle of the table and a pattern emerges — deep house is Azerbaijan's default setting. Three of the top eight claim it as their main genre. Jay Aliyev (No. 4, credit score 507, 1,832 votes) pairs 19,459 SoundCloud followers with 18,057 Last.fm listeners, a healthy spread across platforms. Sadiq Mehdiyev (No. 6, 414) leans on YouTube, where 4,630 subscribers follow his output. Gurban Abbasli (No. 7, 408) works the mix-culture channels, with 2,002 on SoundCloud and 514 on Mixcloud.
And note the gap between Mehdiyev and Abbasli: six points. That is a genuinely close race within the deep-house pack, and a few good months could reorder it.
The wildcards
Samir Nagizadeh takes No. 3 with a 547 credit score and 1,763 votes under the electronica banner, backed by the board's largest Instagram audience at 130,578 followers. RAEM brings straight-ahead house at No. 5 (450 credit score, 1,287 votes) — a modest platform footprint so far, but a mid-table rank earned on 1,279 SoundCloud followers suggests votes are coming from somewhere real.
Closing out the top eight is Lin Pesto at No. 8, the second electronica entry, with a 373 credit score, 632 votes and 60,971 Last.fm listeners — the highest Last.fm figure anywhere on the AZ board.
The read
What makes this board compelling isn't one breakout — it's the structure. A dominant No. 1 in a genre nobody else on the list touches. A festival-hardened tech house act in second. A deep-house middle class separated by single-digit margins. And electronica acts at No. 3 and No. 8 proving the scene isn't a monoculture. Azerbaijan's electronic music story is still being written, but the table already reads like a scene, not a coincidence. Watch the six-point fight at ranks six and seven — that's where the next move happens.
