Austria on DJ Radar: Klangkarussell Leads as House and Bass Split the Top Eight

Austria has 145 DJs on the DJ Radar board, and its top eight doesn't settle on one sound. Progressive house, drum & bass, nu-disco, minimal, psy-trance, tech house and dubstep all hold a place near the top. Two currents run strongest: the house family and the bass family, with three acts each.

Klangkarussell sets the pace

Klangkarussell sits at No. 1 with a credit score of 875 and 8,140 votes, the highest vote count in the country's top eight. The Progressive House act's platform numbers match the ranking: 4,590,502 Spotify monthly listeners, 486,061 Spotify followers, 576,088 Last.fm listeners and 37,501 RA followers.

The lead is real. Klangkarussell's 28-point margin over second place is the widest gap between any two neighbouring positions in this group.

A scrum behind the leader

Below the top spot, the board tightens. Ranks two through five sit within 8 points of each other: Mefjus on 847, Parov Stelar and HVOB level on 843, and Camo & Krooked on 839.

Mefjus carries the drum & bass flag at No. 2, with 7,462 votes, 534,998 Spotify monthly listeners and 93,738 SoundCloud followers. Camo & Krooked, also filed under Drum & Bass, hold No. 5 with 728,618 monthly listeners, 397,953 Last.fm listeners and 139,093 Instagram followers. Two drum & bass names in the top five say a lot about where the energy on Austria's dancefloors runs.

Parov Stelar has the deepest follower base of the eight. Ranked third and filed under Nu-Disco / Indie Dance, he has 1,155,184 Spotify followers, 1,178,087 Last.fm listeners, 567,000 YouTube subscribers and 168,827 Instagram followers. Each is the highest figure on file in its column for this group.

HVOB shares that 843 credit score, and Parov Stelar leads on votes, 6,725 to 6,698. As the only techno-family act in the top eight, HVOB gives the list its Minimal / Deep Tech edge, with 246,584 Spotify followers, 103,196 SoundCloud followers and 20,550 RA followers.

Votes versus position

Toby Romeo shows most clearly how votes and ranking can split. The Tech House DJ sits at No. 7 with a credit score of 828, yet his 7,692 votes are second only to Klangkarussell's in the top eight. Vote volume alone doesn't decide the order.

Harris & Ford bring psy-trance in at No. 6, with a credit score of 831, 6,873 votes, 2,908,200 Spotify monthly listeners and 329,000 YouTube subscribers.

Ikkimel completes the group at No. 8 with a credit score of 819 and 6,825 votes. Filed under Dubstep, she rounds out the bass-family trio, with 2,305,451 Spotify monthly listeners, 401,681 Spotify followers, 108,000 YouTube subscribers and 708,600 TikTok followers.

The local flavour

Austria's identity here is range, not a single house style. Its top tier moves from progressive house melody to drum & bass pressure, and from minimal precision to psy-trance drive and dubstep weight, without one family taking over.

That balance also keeps the board open. With Mefjus, Parov Stelar, HVOB and Camo & Krooked packed into an 8-point band, the space behind Klangkarussell is the part of the Austrian board to watch.
